Our Vision:

Our ambition is to help as many people as possible attain quality homes, that are good for them and the planet, by sharing research and information about renovation and self-build in England & Wales.

Lifestyle.

In the UK, many of us find ourselves living in pre-war properties, not easily adapted to modern life. Newer homes, largely developed by volume house-builders, often fail to provide enough space to carry out simple every day activities.

Our homes should be able to accommodate our individual lifestyles. As a minimum, they should provide the space and infrastructure needed to carry out essential activities in comfort. We shouldn’t need to break the bank for a home that functions.

At Home Yolk, we are investigating cost-effective ways to create homes tailored to their inhabitants; whether that is through constructing a bespoke home or renovating an existing property.

Sustainability.

In the UK our homes account for approximately 28% of CO2 emissions. Around 49% of homes in England and Wales currently have no wall insulation, contributing to inefficiency. While newer homes tend to be better insulated, poor environmental design mean many now suffer from overheating during the summer months.

Here at Home Yolk, we believe your home is an integral part of a sustainable lifestyle. It is clear that work needs to be done so that our homes can both withstand the climate crisis and operate efficiently. We are exploring how a fabric first approach can improve the efficiency and comfort of both existing and new homes.

Living sustainably means having a lifestyle that the planet can sustain - but importantly it must be a lifestyle you can sustain to - physically, emotionally and financially! Home Yolk will consider the benefit and viability of home features in this holistic context.

Finance.

With average house price inflation far outstripping salary increases, it is no secret that housing in the UK is becoming increasingly unaffordable. The average house price is now roughly 8.5 times the average salary.

At Home Yolk, we believe in adding value through development, rather than relying on house price inflation to generate equity. Improving your home, or building a new one, could improve your financial security.

We are examining how self-build and renovation can help people attain quality homes at a lower price. We are also exploring how homes can contribute to income generation, further improving financial security.
